DREADED SOLUTION - WASTELAND OCCUPATION (2005)

DREADED SOLUTION

WASTELAND OCCUPATION CD-R EP

2005 PLASTIC FACT RECORDS PFR-002

DREADED SOLUTION BEGAN IN LATE 2003 IN EAST SAN DIEGO COUNTY WITH A FEW JAMS BETWEEN IAN PLASTIC (AKA Jesus-id) ON GUITAR AND JAROD SUXXX ON DRUMS, IN JAROD'S PARENTS' SIZEABLE, UNCLUTTERED GARAGE.  FUELED BY ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINKS AND CIGARETTES, IT WAS MAINLY INSTRUMENTAL IMPROV JAMS OF NOISY PUNK RIFFS AND SOME RANDOM COVERS OF STUFF LIKE SWINGIN' UTTERS AND CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL.  THE TWO HAD KNOWN EACH OTHER SINCE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL. THEY HAD ALREADY PLAYED TOGETHER IN A SHORT-LIVED BAND CALLED THE BOMB SHELTER KIDS, AROUND SPRING BREAK OF THE YEAR 2000, WHEN IAN JOINED ON SECOND GUITAR, WHILE JAROD WAS ALREADY IN THE BAND PLAYING BASS.
IN EARLY 2004 MARC MOTHERFUKKER, WHO ATTENDED THE SAME HIGH SCHOOL AS IAN, WAS TENATIVELY ADDED ON BASS.  MARC WAS ALREADY ACTIVE  IN THE LOCAL MUSIC SCENE PREVIOUSLY, IN THE PUNK BAND FUCKOS.  WHEN JAROD AND IAN STARTED THE NEW PROJECT, MARC WAS THE  BASSIST IN THE EAST SAN DIEGO COUNTY SCUM PUNK PARTY BAND TIM RALDO AND THE FILTHY FUKS. JAROD APPROACHED MARC AT A SHOW, MOST LIKELY AT THE SMOKEY LA MESA DIVE BAR JOE 'N ANDY'S, AND SAID, "WE'RE GONNA STEAL YOU."
THE TRIO BEGAN ASSEMBLING A SET OF ORIGINAL SONGS AND REHEARSING AT IAN'S PARENT'S HOUSE IN EL CAJON IN THE CRAMPED, HOT GARAGE, TO THE DISMAY OF THE NEIGHBORS.  NO NOISE COMPLAINTS WERE EVER FILED AND NO POLICE EVER SHOWED UP AS FAR AS MEMORY SERVES.
AFTER WRITING AND PRACTICING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS THE TRIO FINALLY SETTLED ON THE NAME DREADED SOLUTION, BECAUSE IT WAS UNIQUE ENOUGH NOT TO BE IN USE BY ANY OTHER BANDS, AND INVOKED AN OMINOUS VIBE OF SOME IMPENDING THREAT, ALTHOUGH IT ALSO MADE SOME PEOPLE MAKE AN ASSOCIATION TO REGGAE AND RASTAFARIANISM (DREADS), DESPITE THE BAND HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO REGGAE OR SKA CHARACTERISTICS OR INFLUENCES.
DREADED SOLUTION EVENTUALLY RECORDED A THREE SONG DEMO ON A DIGITAL FOUR TRACK RECORDER WITH THE HELP OF THE FILTHY FUKS GUITARIST JOEY IDOL IN A TINY WALK IN CLOSET IN JOEY'S APARTMENT.  THESE SONGS WERE BURNED TO APPROXOMATELY 100 CD-R'S AND DISTRIBUTED WITH A XEROXED FOLD-OVER INSERT IN A SLIM JEWEL CASE FOR FREE AT SHOWS.  (FUN FACT: THE PLASTIC FACT RECORDS LOGO WAS TAKEN FROM THE COVER ARTWORK OF THIS DEMO CD-R)  DREADED SOLUTION BEGAN PLAYING SHOWS AROUND SAN DIEGO FAIRLY REGULARLY BEGINNING ON JUNE 6TH, 2004, AT A BIRTHDAY SHOW FOR FRIEND JEREMY GRIFFIN (B.G. JOHNSON) OF THE BAND THE CRACKHEDZ.  THE SHOW WAS HELD AT JOE 'N ANDY'S WITH TIM RALDO AND THE FILTHY FUKS HEADLINING, AND COINCIDENTALLY, WAS THE SAME DAY THAT PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN DIED.  IN MAY, 2005, THE FIRST STUDIO EP WAS COMPLETED AT AMPERSAND STUDIOS IN SANTEE. RECORDED, MIXED AND MASTERED BY STUDIO OWNER KYLE THOMPSON.  THE WASTELAND OCCUPATION EP WAS A DIY RELEASE BURNED ON CD-RS WITH PHOTOCOPIED CD LABELS AND FOUR-PANEL SQUARE FOLD-OUT INSERT WITH ARTWORK ON ONE SIDE AND HAND-WRITTEN LYRICS ON THE OTHER, PRINTED ON GLOSS PAPER IN A JEWEL CASE.  IT WAS LIMITED TO 200 COPIES AND SOLD FOR $5 AT SHOWS.  THE EP WAS RELEASED PRIOR TO THE LAUNCH OF THE DIY ART PROJECT THAT IS PLASTIC FACT RECORDS AND WAS RETROACTIVELY ASSIGNED A CATALOG NUMBER, WHICH IS WHY IT IS PFR-002, DESPITE IT BEING RELEASED IN 2005, WHILE BLOOD STAINED REALITY'S NAZI SCUM BURN IN HELL 7" VINYL EP WAS RELEASED IN 2007 WITH THE CATALOG NUMBER PFR-001. THERE ARE A SMALL AMOUNT OF COPIES OF THIS AVAILABLE FOR $3 PLUS SHIPPING, ABOUT $6 TOTAL IN THE U.S.  INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING WOULD NEED TO BE CALCULATED DEPENDING ON YOUR LOCATION.  PAYPAL ONLY.  TO ORDER, SEND YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS TO PLASTICFACTRECORDS-AT-GMAIL.COM.
