BARTENDER'S BIBLE - RIMROCK RECORDING SESSIONS, 2007 SUMMERTONE RECORDS

 BARTENDER'S BIBLE

RIMROCK RECORDING SESSIONS
2007 SUMMERTONE RECORDS

BARTENDER'S BIBLE ARE A SAN DIEGO-BASED BAND THAT PLAY A NICE BLEND OF AMERICANA, BLUEGRASS, FOLK, ROOTS AND COUNTRY.  THEY FORMED SOMETIME IN THE EARLY 2000'S, ROUGHLY AROUND 2003 WOULD BE A GOOD GUESS.  RIMROCK RECORDING SESSIONS IS APPARENTLY THE BAND'S ONLY OFFICIAL RELEASE, ALTHOUGTH THERE IS NOW A RECORDING OF THEIR LIVE REUNION SET AT THE BLACK CAT BAR IN SAN DIEGO FROM FRIDAY, APRIL 13TH, 2020.  THIS SET IS AVAILABLE FOR $7 USD AT THEIR BANDCAMP PAGE.
RIMROCK RECORDING SESSIONS WAS RECORDED AND MIXED BY PALL JENKINS OF THREE MILE PILOT AND BLACK HEART PROCESSION AT RIMROCK RANCH, JUST OUTSIDE OF JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK IN THE MOJAVE DESERT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.  PALL ALSO PLAYED THE SAW ON SEVERAL TRACKS AND AT MULTIPLE LIVE SHOWS.  ALL MUSIC WAS COMPOSED AND LYRICS WRITTEN (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE FINAL TRACK) BY JASON CORBIN, PREVIOUSLY OF BUTCH WAX DUO AND A MEMBER OF MR. TUBE AND THE FLYING OBJECTS.  JASON PERFORMED LEAD VOCALS AND GUITAR.  MATT STRACHOTA PERFORMED BACKING VOCALS, LAP STEEL GUITAR, BANJO, GUITAR, AND KEYS.

ORIGINAL HAND-DRAWN COVER OF THE D.I.Y. VERSION OF RIMROCK RECORDING SESSIONS

COMPLIMENTING JASON'S LEAD VOCALS, ARABELLA HARRISON ALSO PERFORMED DUELING LEAD VOCALS ALONG WITH GUITAR.  ARABELLA HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN IN THE BOSTON-BASED BAND JEJUNE, WHO TRANSPLANTED TO SAN DIEGO IN 1997.  JEJUNE HAD RELEASED A SPLIT AND TOURED WITH JIMMY EAT WORLD, AND TOURED WITH OTHER LARGER ACTS SUCH AS PIEBALD, BRAID, AND THE GET UP KIDS.  AFTER JEJUNE SPLIT IN EARLY 2000, HARRISON JOINED THE AND/ORS, AND PERFORMED SOLO BEFORE JOINING BARTENDER'S BIBLE.
MATT PARKER, WHO CAME TO SAN DIEGO IN 1989 AND PLAYED IN A BAND CALLED BIG TENSION, PLAYED GUITAR AND LAP STEEL GUITAR ON THE RECORDING AS WELL AS MANDOLIN AT LIVE SHOWS.  JIM AUSTIN (CHEAP LEIS, BRAWLEY, GOLDEN HILL RAMBLERS) PLAYED THE UPRIGHT BASS, AND RICHARD "T-BONE" LARSON (TENDER FAERIES, NENA ANDERSON, CHLOE LOU AND THE LIDDELLS) PLAYED DRUMS.  BARTENDER'S BIBLE FREQUENTED VARIOUS SAN DIEGO DIVE BARS LIKE THE TOWER BAR ON UNIVERSITY AVENUE AND THE CASBAH ON KETTNER.  AT SOME POINT THE BAND SPLIT, BUT AS STATED ABOVE, THEY HAVE RECENTLY REUNITED TO PLAY AT LEAST ONE LIVE SHOW.   THIS ALBUM HAS ELEVEN ORIGINALS AND A COVER OF THE CLASSIC "JACKSON," WRITTEN BY BILLY EDD WHEELER AND JERRY LEIBER AND POPULARIZED BY NANCY SINATRA AND LEE HAZELWOOD, AND LATER, MORE NOTEABLY BY JOHNNY CASH AND JUNE CARTER CASH.  THIS IS NOT A TYPICAL PLASTIC FACT RECORDS BLOG POST, BUT STILL GOOD STUFF IF YOU'RE OPEN TO SOME GOOD OLD-FASHIONED DESERT DRINKING MUSIC.  THIS WAS ORIGINALLY GIFTED BY JASON (THE INITIAL D.I.Y. VERSION OF THE RELEASE), BUT THE CD-R NO LONGER PLAYS, AND THE MP3S THAT WERE STILL ON THE IPOD FROM YEARS AGO HAVE TOO MUCH STATIC TO BE SHARED WITH CONFIDENCE.  A BRAND NEW, FACTORY-MADE COPY WAS PURCHASED ONLINE FROM LOU'S RECORDS IN ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA VIA AMAZON FOR ABOUT $8 USD, SHIPPING INCLUDED.  THIS WAS THE LAST AVAILABLE COPY.  MP3S RIPPED AT 320 KBPS.  ENJOY.
